That's all it takes to retire early. Invest, save, live wisely...I retired at 50...not by choice, but, screw 'em, didn't need their lousy job anyway. Had enough stashed away to pay for two college educations, two college grad gifts (cars), couple of weddings and a half a dozen boats. Now I have more coming in than I ever did when I was working!!!

I missed the boat...
(so to speak on that one). My parents never said anything to me about saving when I was growing up. Well... before I figured out what was what... it was too late! I told my kids to pay themselves first... then the bills. I think I have them started on the right path to financial security. Can't under estimate the time value of a dollar. I'll figure it out sooner... next time around!

I wish that I could Retire!!!!
I am heading out tomorrow on a 19 day vacation. Taking the boat south down the Chesapeake Bay. There has been a lot of termoil at work and it has been a really bad working environment (enough to get my blood pressure up to 186/119). That is really bad since I am only 30 and had my first heart attack at 28 (Doctor says that it was genetic and they fixed the problem with a stint). My line of work, police work, is getting more stressful as it goes along. I still have 16-20 years to go of this stuff!!!

All, yesterday seven sailboats of various sizes left from Pascagoula, Mississippi for the every May trip to Priates Cove and beyond. While they left I was sitting in the horseshoe at Horn Island, because of work I was not able to go, currently one year into the "five Year" plan, before retirement, next time we are going. So if you see a gaggle of seven boats on your trip, make sure you stop and say hello, they should be cruising for at least ten days.

I don't believe that it is realistic to plan to be retired for
very many years. With good health and health care many of us will live to be 90 or older. Nancy and I bought ice cream cones today. Single dip nothing fancy 2 dollars each. When we were first married we could buy two for a quarter and get a penny change. I bought a 2 year old car with 25000 miles showing for 1700 dollars in 1968. That was a 4 door Dodge. My point is that it will be a rare pension plan that will keep up with inflation for forty years and even more rare that anyone can work for 30 years and retire for 40 years on savings and investments.

Retire If You Can
I and wife retired 2007 and living the dream,we both worked very hard most of our life,not easy jobs. We saved and had jobs with pensions and with both of us having money coming in every month and good investments makes the dream come true. We are lucky to really enjoy retirement,so if you can do it go for it it's great. Nick

You Did It at The Right Time!
Today, it hard to find a job without paying, at least, part of the retirement plan, or make good investments without taking a risk! More power to you. We are still trying! A 401k helps, but not enough!

Retired at 37
The retirement was from a job at Target Corporation headquarters. No money, no savings, and I still have to work to eat and pay the bills, but no more suit and tie, and no more working at what I don't like just for the big money. The "retirement" was in my head. I changed my attitude toward life and how I live it. I live on the Outer Banks of North Carolina three blocks from the beach and I just bought my dream boat, a 1980 Hunter 27 (my third sailboat since I retired). I'm pushing 60 now and couldn't be happier. As I tell my friends, "I must be rich, look at this pot belly". Seriously, I try to act like I'm always on vacation and I can always do exactly what I want to do (which really is all we ever do anyway). It has kept me young and sassy.
