support for fitting for lines aft

Greetings,I now have in my hot little hands (ok, in the trunk) a deck organizer, rope clutch as well as new haylards and blocks to do my lines aft project. Do I need to put backing plates on the inside of cabin roof under the organizer and clutch? I also have a winch on the mast that I won't be using now so I'm thinking of moving it behind the clutch. Should I put support inside for it? I have access to 1/4 inch aluminium or various thicknesses of plywood. Which to use. The Cabin roof seems in excelent condition no soft spots or other visible defects. Thoughts.Thanks,Mike

If your 25 is like my '84 26, there is a molded liner on the cabin ceiling, right? See the 1" holes for the bolts that hold the handrail to the coachroof? Don't put a backing plate on the inside of the liner; you need to open enough space to slip a backing plate to the upper layer. If I were doing a clutch, stoppers, and a winch to the top of my cabin, I would definitely use a backing of some sort. I'd use aluminum or stainless. Good luck!

Mike -I would definitely back the fittings. At a minimum use large fender washers. You need to cut the headliner enough that the washers are against the deck castings, not simply the liner.For the winch I'd use a wooden backing block with a load bearing area equal to or larger than the winch base.Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Turning Blocks?

How are you attaching the turning blocks? I am interested in the same project and need to figure out a way to attach of find a plate that will fit under the mast to attach the turning blocks.EJ TewsJennifer Lea

EJ, if you'll go to this site you will see the plate I have. It is stainless with three holes on either side for turning blocks and the four holes are predrilled but I haven't installed it yet so I'm not sure the line up with the holes on the mast step. I'll find out soon if there is no wind and I get around to putting it together.
