I recently purchased a 1978 O'Day 27 and was interested to find that a previous owner had put a small "supercool" unit in the icebox. It lights up when I throw the switch....seems to put out a minimal amount of slightly cooler air by radiation and there is no compressor. I think it is broken. Any thoughts?

Possibly thermoelectric

If so it should have a fan. These units will cool a small space but take a continuous current. Mine took 4 amps.

Thermoelectric

It's a thermoelectric cooler. Generally these will cool the icebox down to about 40-45 degrees below ambient temperature. I have a portable, ice chest type, that worked great on a car trip. It takes about 3 hours to cool down. Try running your's at the dock overnight (with your charger hooked up) with some jugs of water in your icebox. They should be pretty well cooled down by morning. Check out the link below. Also, there are a number of postings on thermoelectric coolers in the archives.
