Super Cold Machine question (for Phil or others)

I read somewhere (on one of the hundereds of sites) that the water pump for the Super ColdMachine should only be run when the boat is underway. Is this correct? This would seem to be a problem given that I intend to spend a great deal of time at anchor. For a small refrig/converted icebox, would I be alright in Florida using the cold machine, and not using water cooling? OK so 2 questions -- what power consumption can I expect on 12 volts given reasonable insulation? I am going to use 3 inches of foam or as close as I can get.

Probably not

Debra: An AB tech told me that the pump was only really needed in tropical environments.... ambient temps around 105 and above. However, using the pump can only provide more efficient cooling, at the cost of electrical power Jeff

water cooling

When they say "only use water cooling while underway" they mean, do not use it when shore power is available at the dock. The purpose for water cooling is to save amps, and at the dock your battery charger handles the load. Water cooling is a big advantage in extreme tropical conditions, or when the condensing unit has to be located in poorly ventilated spaces or engine compartments. If the air passing through the condenser never reaches 98 degrees, there is no need for water cooling. The oversized air condenser on the ColdMachine is more than adequate. Countless charter fleets who had insisted on water cooled refrigeration have been won over by the air cooled performance of the ColdMachine.
