I was overuled

I wanted to name our boat "Sugar Magnolia," but my wife thought it was dumb. She doesn't get it.

DUMB?!?

Steve, I can understand that maybe your wife didn't get it -- amazing but true, not everyone is a Dead fan. But thinking that "Sugar Magnolia" is dumb? Horrors! Truth be told, there are probably dozens of viable boat names lifted right out of Dead lyrics or song titles. Given the hull color of the 272, 302 and 322, one obvious contender might be "Touch of Grey." Here are a few others, fresh off the top of my head: Ripple China Doll Ship of Fools and, if you'll pardon the literary license... Helena Bucket (as in "Going to hell in a bucket") Keep on truckin', Pete s/v EmmieLou (Oday 322) Little Silver, NJ P.S.: Anyone who's ever seen my boat after a week or two of cruising would probably think that "Pigpen" was an appropriate name, too.

Sugar Magnolia

Well, according to the BoatUS boat names database, someone did think "Sugar Magnolia" was the right name for their boat.

Weather Report.....SWEEEEEET!

Great name for the boat! I'm listening to 7-14-84 Greek Theatre show right now... thinking about going out to my boat tommorrow. I'm down here in Florida, and a sailing deadhead... I hope that some day I can say I've logged as many hours sailing the sea as the hours I've listening to all thise crispy soundboards! I miss trading tapes the old fashioned way! Any favorite shows to listen to when sailing? I'd love to play a show out on the gulf and time it to the sunset like the old shows were... first set wrapping up just as the sun is setting...ease into drums and space by anchor as the sky starts to get dark, followed by a killer second set that just weaves into the night to an encore and top it all off with a 'kind veggie burrito' and an ice cold import from the lot.... damn.

Nice to see...

...others out here that enjoy nice sailing and great music. Paul, I would have to say my favorite show while crusing is Oxford Maine, 7/2/88. Especially the Second set!! Crazy Fingers opener along with a killer Terrapin and oh so sweet Morning Dew. I started taping a band up here (New Englad) name Max Creek back in the early nineties (they have turned out turning into some of my best friends...they are playing my wedding next summer). "Truthfully", I probably listen to thme more out on the boat then Dead. Ever here of them? Anybody want some crispie SBD's just email me (chris@NOSPAMfernstravel.com) with an address and I will send ya some (remove the NOSPAM from the email). Rainy day today so I am just transfering some of the old analog to CD...

Crispy SBD's!

I'll contact you for a few crispy SBD's... I just burned 4 shows for a friend in Atlanta.. a spectrum.. a 69 show, 73,76, and 84. I have heard of Max Creek... Definitley be interested in afew SBD'd of them to check out. So, you are a taper too? I never got the equipment to do it myself, but always hung near the tapers section for both best quality sound position, and also cool to hang with fellow audiophiles who where recording musical history. I'll be in touch.
