Barnett Butterfly (maybe) ??? Lake of the Forest
Would a Sunfish daggerboard work on a butterfly style sailboat? My butterfly (style) sailboat does not have a daggerboard and I found one for cheap (like $20 cheap). I can't find online the dimensions for a Sunfish OR a Butterfly daggerboard. Will it fit and be safe? Thanks!

I personally don’t know if a sunfish dagger board would work on butterfly, if the dimensions are of the boards are the same there shouldn't be a problem. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on the sunfish forum that could probably answer this for you. http://www.sunfishforum.com/

sunfish daggerboard in a butterfly

Yes it will work. The butterfly daggerboard is slightly bigger at the top than a sunfish but it will work just fine using a sunfish board in a butterfly. I think I have both sizes and I will try to remember to measure them tommorow, but I know it will work just fine.

I made a daggerboard it was easy. Buy a laminated board at Home Depot, they sell them already glued up and planed to perfection. Cut out the shape you want then using a block plane plane it to have a bit of a foil shape with a thicker leading edge and thin trailing edge. Then take two 3/4 inch squaer strips and through bolt them across the top to provide a means to stop the board. Works great on my sand dollar.

Oh yeah, use a belt sander to finish it after the block plane and I used epoxy to seal it.
