First, I hope it is real windy, maybe 30 MPH or so. Then I want to cut several of the control lines almost through, so they break in the wind. At that point, I have a hole I cut in the bottom of the boat, that I duct taped shut, hole the size of a couple of shoe boxes, I will cut away the tape, and pretend we are sinking.

At this point, I will ask my wife if she can find the life vests, I hid them real good, she loves a good game of hide and seek.

Should be a lot of fun, and I am sure we will all learn a lot. I have invited along the president of the yacht club, he does not know about the test. Boy o boy, will he be surprised!

Should I spring for lunch after, or do they let people cold and wet into the marina dining room?

As long as you say, "April Fool!" they'll let you in no matter how cold and wet you are.

Might as well have a big glass jar of gas rigged to tip over onto a burning candle, loosen all of the keel bolts, sprinkle broken glass all throughout the cabin and hook up a 100VAC source to the fire extinguisher while you're at it. Make it a truly memorable test.

I would definitely draw the line at calling out the April Fools "Mayday" though!

One of the best April Fools stunts we ever pulled was when I was working as a paramedic in Camden NJ. We got with the city's ambulance and called a cardiac arrest in to our medical command then took our completely treated "patient" (cardiac monitor, breathing tube, IV's, drugs and CPR in progress) to West Jersey Hospital. To the delight of the nursing staff, we arrived to a waiting medical team with our "patient"....a large fish.

Then I set all my house's clocks and watches an hour and a half back. Wife didn't realize it until she got to work really, really early!

I was just going to place "Please use other door " signs on all of the doors to our building.

I think that works the other way around.

You are correct. I meant ahead. It was over 25 years ago! I still have to think about the correct terminology in March and October when we have to move the clocks! Either way, almost impossible to do now thanks to cell phones and cable boxes. Have to change settings to get it right!

Going from DST to standard time and back is easy to remember. You spring back and fall forward.

Yes. But what kills me is the lose/gain thing. Because if I'm working midnight shift on "falling" day, I lose an hour (pay). If I'm off that day I gain an hour (sleep) and vice versa in the spring. That's why I always have to think about it!! Lose and gain are always interchangeable an sometimes opposite for me!

What's worse is when someone says "I need to move up that appointment.". Do the mean up as in closer to now or up as in a higher number on the calendar? Or when we have to move that meeting back. Back how??? Back towards right now? Or up? Ughhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I agree daylight savings time should be done away with. Pick a time and stick to it.

There is a porch column that casts a shadow on the wall of my house. I have driven a nail into the wall and when shadow from the column touches the nail it is noon where I am.
Tomorrow noon will happen at 1308 hours in Bel Air.

I believe it was some old wise First Nations person that said Daylight Saving time is like trying to make a blanket longer by cutting a foot off the bottom and sewing it on the top
