I've used some of the Sumbrella products and don't recall a difference between one side and the other. I also pre-wash all my cloth in very hot to reduce shrinkage of the finished project, so I may have washed it off.

As a general sewing rule; the slick or bright side of the fabric goes out. Any added protection to the cloth (mildew, water proofing, fire retardant, etc. ) would work best if facing out as well.

Reading Ed's link, Sumbrella recommends that side down.

I guess your question isn't so dumb after all.

The stuff I bought has 2 sides one looks normal with a little shine the other looks like it was waxed. I think after much discussion the wax side is in. I am trying to make a hatch cover for a Hunter 23. What fun!!

Thanks for everyones help!
