Has anyone made sunbrella hatch covers for their S2? I have a 9.2A and the previous owner (PO)actually did an amazing job in having a new main hatch fabricated. I can't imagine what it cost him, but I'd like to protect it from the sun. Also, I plan to replace the badly crazed forward hatch and would like to protect it as well. The PO said he passed on doing the forward hatch after all the money he spent on the main hatch. I believe it. I can't even find bronzed / smoked lexan in the thickness I need commonly available. I did find a company that can do the job though. They gave me a very low ballpark quote, but it didn't include all the extra work (drilling an tapping 30 odd holes for the teak strips) necessary.

Anyone have some options? For the main hatch I was thinking about attaching it to the sea hood but to keep it simple by having it held in place in the cockpit by a sewn in weight, such as sand, so I don't have to mount a ton of snaps around the companionway.

I don't even have an idea that sounds good for the forward hatch. Once again, trying to avoid a bunch of snaps. Perhaps just sew it up to fit pretty tightly and then put two or three elastic webs across it. Then I can just slip it on. Hopefully the elastic webbing won't compromise the hatch seal.

Thoughts? Experiences? Photos?

Thanks,

I don't have a suggestion for you on the hatch cover, but I have a 9.2C with a badly cracked rear hatch (same dimensions as the forward hatch on the 9.2A), and would appreciate any contact info for the company you found that gave you the quote on fabricating a new one.

Since these are about 3/4" thick how about 4 snaps at each corner in the edge of the hatch material?

I can't remember the companies name and am away from my home computer in Florida for a few days. I will post the name on my return. Apologies. Bob
