Does anyone know or feel what is the best suntan lotion on the market today?

Bullfrog!

Bob: I like bullfrog. They have a quik dry gel that is great on your face. It does not seem to get in your eyes when you sweat. Their regular gel is good too. They do not seem to be greasy like some of the others. The main thing is to get enough on your skin to get the protection that you are purchasing. If you buy a SPF 45 but don't get adequate coverage it really does not work well. Most of the lotions are made from the same basic base that the mfg's. buy from just a couple of companies and then they add their own additives for scent, moisturizers, color etc. So I don't think that there is a lot of difference other than what SPF level you are paying for and the brand name (advertising costs). Consumer reports has a test on these products on a regular basis. You can probably get a more scientific answer from their publication.

Coppertone

My family swears by the Coppertone line of waterproof sunscreen. I have also had very good results with Banana Boat; it is a little less runny than the Coppertone, but doesn't smell as good. I don't think it really matters since most of the leading brands use the same active ingredient; you should just make sure that you avoid the lotions with PABA if you are allergic. Also, unless you are outside all day in the blazing equitorial sun, buying an SPF over 15 is really a waste of money. If you can stay outside in the sun for a half hour before burning, then wearing 15 will protect you for 15 times 30 minutes, or 450 minutes (more than seven hours).

Panama Jack Super Sport

I've always had good luck with the Panama Jack Super Sport lotions- They're not greasy, don't have a strong smell, stay on well in water, don't sweat out easily, and the SPF 30 provides decent protection. The big secret (as with most lotions) is to put it on BEFORE you get out in the Sun- at least 15-20 minutes before. The only problem with this lotion is that I just can't find it anywhere anymore (except on the web- http://www.panamajack.com ). When I can't get the PJ lotions, I use Coppertone Sport. --Jon Bastien H25 'Adagio'

Lotions,smotions

Hello bob: Having gone thru melanoma (clarks level 4), my advice is to use any product you like, as long as the SPF is 30 or above. The key is to use it on a constant basis. I live in S Fl. and I put sunblock on every morning. I also wear long sleeve shirts throughout the year, and if I will be in the sun for any length of time a broad brim hat. Don't know your age or genetics, I am 66 and visit the Derm. every six months. No re-occurences now for 5 years. Must be doing something right )

NO-AD

NO-AD is made by Solar Suncare in FL and is just what the name implies -- no advertising. It contains the same 'stuff' that the name brands do but is sold at a fraction of the cost. It's not 'perfumy' either. They have several SPF ratings available in color-coded bottles. It's also good protection from wind/water/salt too! Ken S/V Wouff Hong
