I have a Shower Sump Box that needs a new pump. All of the boats I've rented in the BVI have just the pump alone with a button to momentarily turn it on. Most seem to have an in-line screen to filter out the debris. The down side to Sump Box are they never completely drain. They get a little stinky when the boats is closed up for a week or two. Is there a down side to the pump alone? Surely the BVI boats get more use than ours would. If this approach makes sense is there a pump brand and model you have found durable?

I had an older Beneteau Idylle 15.5 (51') with 4 shower, 1 icebox, and 1 bilge pump. They were all diaphragm type. I replaced them as needed for the same type. Bought them from Budget marine in the Caribbean. All had a strainer before the pump. The drain went from the shower pan drain directly to the strainer, then the pump. Always worked well. There are newer impeller type pumps that will work.
Never let the shower drain into the bilge.

Yes...The local dollar store. Large bottle of pineo'pine. Pour some down the shower drain and sinks, bilge even head or holding tank. Get almost all my cleaning supplies from there. Some times I even fill the raw water strainers. Makes the boat smell nice and clean.

I just swapped mine out last weekend on my h376. My original was an Attwood shower sump and its pump is built to be replaced when it fails. The issue is that Attwood no longer makes the pump. I ended up buying the entire sump box for $86 and installing it. I agree in that it does leave 1/2inch +/- of water in the box but if you pour some cleaner in afterwards you should be fine. The new box can be installed to where it's easy to pull out and clean and providing Attwood doesn't redesign their pumps again it can be replaced for $29.

I have the pump only and it works fine but wish I had a sump pump box for my AC to drain and auto pump it out instead the AC drain into the bilge,I am really thinking of adding a sump pump box for my AC.

I had the same problem, So far you can still find attwood float switch at wal-mart. I managed to jury rig a fix. Took small rule pump and placed a very short piece of hose on the nib, but long enough and just small enough to fit into round gasket on sump box. Works great. Did not have to buy new sump.

Put a pump & float switch in a tupperware container & dump the condensate into that.
