Summer Help

Hi all,
I was fortunate this summer to get some help with our "new to us" boat. We added a solar panel, repaired a generator problem while cruising, and now we're finishing some final projects for the season. I just wanted to thank Main Sail for his help and patience.
While cruising I noticed some high-end boats had wooden rollers on their stays to reduce chafe on their sails. I grabbed some 1" PVC and cut a spiral curf the entire length and then squeezed it onto the stay. Not too pretty, but it rolls and doesn't need taped in place. Hope the picture link works.

PVC works well. I put end-caps on 1" pipe and drilled a hole through the cap, then threaded the rigging through the cap. You can see in this pic that one of the caps has fallen off and needs to be replaced.

That's what I have but theirs is over sized so it can actually spin on the shroud; the sail is rolling off the shroud rather than dragging over it. Since I trailer mine, I have built up the lower ends with plastic tubing as a strain relief for when I step the mast and coil the shrouds for travel. But it can slide up for inspection.
