My new to me CS 27 has a Sumlog ll knot-meter.
Was watching with interest as odometer was about to turn from 7999 nautical miles to 8000.
Nothing.. frozen on 7999.. Good news it the speedometer still works.
Tried the tap-tap solution as well as removed access panel at back. Looks like a completely sealed unit.

Any suggestions from fellow sailors?

You are probably out of luck on odometer. You really don't need it. Sumlog was the standard back in the 60s and 70s, but new technology has passed them by.

I noted in one marine catalogue that the wheel is no longer available so it may be necessary to replace the total system.
