I expect to purchase a used Hunter 33.5 or 34 within the next year. Probably in the 35000 to $45000 range. I know a survey should be done, but what are some of the common problems to watch for in this series of boats? Are there some years to steer away from? Also, would this size be large enough to live aboard for at least a year(hopefully more when the wife sees how much there is to see in Florida!)? Now sail a 2000 Mac26X here in south Florida. Appreciate your comments and find this site to be most interesting and helpful. Smooth sailing~~~~ Pete

Hunter 335

Pete, I own a 1992 335 and love it. The only criticism I've ever heard about them is that some of the earlier models had 2 cylinder diesels and were underpowered. You might want to watch out for that. Hope this helps. Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

Hunter Sailboats

Pete: I have several friends who have lived aboard an h34 and nobody had any real complaints. I'm on my fifth sailboat since retiring 28 years ago. The others may have had better accomodations but I got tired of being passed by the Hunters which are a great buy for the money and do well in light winds. I would be careful to check all the following: SeaValves: I replaced all the globe valves (11) on my h40 with ball valves. Check the operation of each sea valve. Engine: The boat you buy will probably have a Yanmar. In 11 years I have never had a major problem. Just make sure the shutdown knob is pushed down when you try to restart. Also, check the engine hoses and wet elbow. Check the starter and remove, sand, and reprime/repaint if necessary. Make the sure the engine alarm system works as designed. Check the sea water cooling system into and out of the strainer to ensure that it is cooling properly, Standing Rigging: Check for meathooks/fishhooks. Check the chainplates. Also check the running rigging. Please feel free to e-mail me directly. Sam Morris
