Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for cleaning jerry cans. I'm pretty meticulous about clean fuel and my jerry can is a few years old, so I was hoping to be able to clean it out rather than purchase another. There is always some residual fuel (drops) when I put it away for the season, so I want to be certain I am not introducing anything to the system. Thanks in advance...

I hate to tell you this, but there is probably more dirt in the new fuel that you are going to purchase than you will find in the jugs.
I would use some liquid dish soap and warm water. Shake them up well and rinse them a couple of times.
If you are "REALLY" worried, get yourself a Baja Filter and use it every time you fill up.

I actually do use a baja filter--actually the WM version which is cheaper and just as effective. I have been reluctant to clean it with anything that may leave a residue and contaminate fuel with whatever I use to clean.
What's interesting is that my new Yanmar 3YM manual is very explicit in not using any biocides (they actually use caps). I have used Biobor in my previous Yanmar's, but since I will follow their recommendations (especially while still under warranty), I will do everything I can to use fresh fuel from clean sources--to the extent that I can.
For $9.99, or less on sale, I side on safety and I recycle these puppies and replace with new. I am sure that I then purchase them back as lawn chairs, fence posts, etc.
