Looking for suggestions for an affordable new/used windvane self-steering tool for a 1977 Hunter 25. Anyone struggle with this already and have some pearls of wisdom to offer? If you've got one already rigged and have a pic that would also be ideal, as I am unfamiliar with their construction & mounting proceedures. Thanks to all in advance, Vin

Conventional Wisdom...

...is that windvanes are not a good idea for coastal or inland sailing. The reasoning is that they perform poorly in the absence of steady, directional winds - typical offshore, rare along the coast. A new, electronic autopilot will cost you less than a used vane, anyway.
