Well, we made it to St. Simon's with my new/old boat Salacia, arriving from Cape Canaveral Florida in just under 35 hours . St. Simons Sound was entered at approximately 0300 and anchor was dropped outside Frederica Yacht Club at 0450 to await daylight so we could locate slip. Problems encountered were very few and manageable. A very courteous water pump failure while still in port, a few questionable aspects of a new rigging job were resolved and about 8 hrs of very lumpy seas approximately 25-30 miles offshore of Jacksonville. Salacia performed well despite systems that had been unused for many years and earned the respect of all four crew. Thanks to everyone here who offered advice and assistance for this voyage!:D

Thanks for the pictures of your voyage. It looks like you and your crew sailed Salacia well. You gotta love boats with some history!

Looks like you had fun. Do you think it was better than putt-putting up the intercoastal.

Hey Joe! Yes I did like it alot more than traveling the ICW! The ICW part of the trip felt alot like driving the interstate :cussing:. I did get the experiences of lock passage, bridge calls, transiting a barge canal and crazy people on the banks yelling somethimg about snagging their lines...lol!

Heh, heh.... sounds like the ICW trip was worthwhile after all. Fishermen who anchor their boats in a channel, or stand on the shore and cast out into the middle of it, need a wake up call.

I got snagged by a fisherman casting out in the small pass we go through to get into the main channel..... he was yelling " hey, man, you're pulling all the line out of my reel!".... I was laughing pretty hard, once I realized the boat wasn't damaged, but I yelled back...."you picked the wrong spot, I can't leave the helm" ....... "just kidding, sir" and I used my boat hook to knock the hook loose... not wanting to give sailors a bad name, you see.

Thanks Sum, we are in the process of sharing photos between all the crew, afterwhich I will try to do more on the trip. Started on the ICW Merritt Island to Cape Canaveral for some maintenence and repairs, then out from there about 25 miles and rumb lined it to outer marker at St Simon's Sound basically. Approx. 36 hrs to outer marker.:D..Got kinda interesting a couple of times...lol!

That is neat!! Doubt Ruth and I will be doing any 36 hours straight just the two of us. Getting a little old for that , but you never know.

I'll be looking forward to 'the rest of the story',

Sum
