Stupid jib halyard question oday 19

I have what may be a dumb ass question.

My oday 19 has a line running down from near the top of the mast that is spliced on. Is this my jib halyard or a line used to raise the mast?

There is a block above it. I was putting the line through the jib and sort of raising it up. It wasn't tied to the jib though.

I haven't seen this before on another Oday but I am very new to sailing so I could be just inexperienced.

Thanks for the help.

Well, it isn't stock! I'd say it was something that a previous owner added to aid in stepping the mast. Not really sure why they didn't just use the jib halyard to do the same thing, but "to each his own"? That is the only thing that I can figure it was for judging only by your picture.

It is not a jib halyard. I can tell you that.

Ok good!! I was pretty confused by it. I think I will use it to step the mast by running it through a block and then a cam cleat.

Thanks for the help!!

Quick update. I found a pic. Looks like he did use it as a halyard. I think he put a block at the the head and then again through another block located above the spliced on line (halyard?).

I think I am going to go back to traditional halyard as the line is too short to rig it this way with the mast up. I have to do it this way when the mast is down.

Perhaps the PO was running a clipper rig? Really odd in any case.
