Anyone want to give me a hint on how to fix my furler....The cup came apart when I tried to furl it and the line got all mucked up( sailor lingo). The cup is above the windey part( nautical term). What do I do now, other than hire someone and take out a mortgage to pay for it.

What kind is it?
Who made it, what is the model number. Someone here or you can go to their website, see the takeapart schematic and then put it back together. Sounds like something is missing or loose. In general, remove the line, pending the make find how it should be held together. Do watch and make sure the forestay doesn't come loose. Should be relatively simple to put back together. Steve P.

it is a CDI Flexible Furler 2. I have the original book but it is very general and doesn't tell me how to fix it, only how to use it. I will take your advice and try their web

Furler cup
I had a Flexifurler before. The hole for the line was split and really "mug" up the lines. I replaced with a home made Stainless cup. You need to bring the mast down, preferably on land, remove the cup and go shopping for a stainless replacement cup. I found a SS food jar with the same diameter in a department store, Sears houseware I believe. I cut it down with a hacksaw to match the length. Drill, grind, file, and sand a few holes and now it is a much improved unit. I don't have a pic but I am sure you can imagine how it works.

June, The guys are sending all good advice. Bring one of your halyards to the foredeck and tie it off before you mess with the furler. I had the CDI FF2 as well, seems the cup will separate on it's own if the line pulls up. Just rewind the thing and make certain your furling line pulls down from the cup. I think it'll be ok then. I'd ask Kaizen (nice guy)to make you a stainless cup like his and send it to you. You could send him money or just a fruitcake you made with rum....... Seriously, I think someone around the docks might be able to help you if you asked around. Particularly someone with a CDI and or a Mac. Steve P.

Here is the link to the manual for your furler. I put one on my boat last year, and it wasn't that hard. You or someone that is semi-handy should be able to handle it. For me the tricky part was getting the line rolled up. Thats because you need to have the sail furled up first, and then attach the line. Took me a while to figure that out, and then my sail was also new and didn't want to roll up tightly. Good luck! Oh, and if you have to get hired help, just remember that it is cheaper than the gas those stink pots are having to buy every time they go out! Kevin
