Hi all,

I had this on my other boat and could never figure out what it was. I thought it went to a mooring grabber or boat hook. Any ideas?

maybe you are hitting on something with the flare gun.....perhaps a safety stop of some sort for the trigger area?

I agree with those above and cast my vote for an adjustable fender hanger. I've found a few that are similar aboard our Pearson, but have never used one.
Perhaps the groove is to fit two together?

I vote for - Chinese tube bender. I recommend using with vaseline....

so there is a trigger/release mechanism. squeeze both of the ribbed semi-circle sections together and the retainers release whatever is in the grooved section.

Save it you will need it some day, but you won't be able to find it so throw it away then you can be mad at yourself for throwing it away. You can always put it on ebay.
