STUFFING BOX

MY STUFFING BOX HAS A STEADY LEAK SO MUCH THAT THE BILGE PUMP COMES ON APX. EVERY 15-20 MINUTES. I TIGHTENED THE NUT AND SLOWED DOWN THE LEAK SOME BUT THERE IS STILL A FAIR LEAK. HOW MUCH MORE CAN THE NUT BE TIGHTENED WITHOUT CREATING OTHER PROBLEMS?

maybe you need new packing material

you can try to tighten it some more, but maybe the packing is worn out and not holding a good seal.
