Repacking questions: How many layers of gut? Any other hints? Have tightened it but it's leaking again after a few afternoon sails. thanks

Try 3 layers

I've used 3 layers of 1/4 inch flax packing material on my 29.5. That seems to work fine.

Drip less stuffing box

I replaced my stuffing box with a drip less one from pyi. It wasn't very expensive and it was real easy to install. I like a dry bilge.

Teflon grease

I used three layers of teflon flax on my stuffing box. Then a friend advised to also apply teflon "grease" to the shaft where the flax will "rub". Did all the above and have been very happy with the 4-5 drips every minute. Teflon flax is more expensive, but I think the whole job cost about $1.50. The teflon grease runs $7-8.00 but you'll use just a little bit on the shaft. There are many other uses for teflon grease.

Teflon Grease works great

Agree with Teflon Grease...though I am curious about the drip less version. How does that work? BTW, teflon grease works great when replacing impellors too!
