I need two stuffing box wrenches: 2" and 2 1/8". I can find the 2" wrench online but not the 2 1/8". The cost of shipping being what it is makes me want to buy both wrenches from the same vendor and at the same time.

You can buy a smooth jawed pipe wrench inexpensively at Home Depot or any plumbing supply house. They work really well and with no teeth to dig up the soft bronze you won't need to worry about gouging up the nut..

"Packing nut wrench" on P307 of the West catalog. 20$. Probably at any hardware store you can find a stamped metal one that is made for some home plumbing use (garbage disposals?) You get 1.75, 2.0, 2.5 inches, but no 2 1/8, plus a few other notches. I paid $8 for mine. It's a "BC T162 T126"..

Nothing is more frustrating to me than working with two cheap adjustable wrenchs, one in both hand, that don't hold their settings. Having two quality wrenches for adjusting the stuffing box will be wonderful and worth the extra cost.

I have one of those packing nut wrenches that constantly slips and changes the setting. Really frustrating. I use a small aluminum pipe wrench, very light and no slippage.

I bought 2 big channel locks I think at Sears. I have used them for all sorts of projects. Hate single use tools.

I have big channel locks it is a pain to get them at the nuts. In my boat 3 hands are needed. Having the wrenches will be wonderful.

I think there would be a good market for aluminum stuffing box wrenches.

The basin wrenches are crap, and even pliers if you don't have two free hands to hold one pair of pliers and a large opening to work in. My center cockpit Morgan has the stuffing box down in the keel in the aft stateroom. It is difficult working in a narrow slot though I can sit cross-legged on the sole, leaning into the keel cavity as I work. After years of using crap tools for this job, I want to know the opulence of owning two good quality wrenches that will always fit the nuts perfectly, making it an easy and quick job of adjusting the stuffing box.

The new wrenches just came in. They are longer and heavier than I would like. I plan to cut them in half and cutting a notch, the width of the shaft, in the box ends. This will give me 12-pt wrenches to facillitate working in the narrow confines of the keel cavity. I wish I bought these wrenches when I bought my boat. I am going to throw every dam commode wrench that I own in the garbage.

The wrenches are still in my office. I can't post a picture till after the weekend. I bought the wrenches from 'toby too' (post #3). They are just plain-jane wrenches--open at one end and boxed at the other end. Due to the fact that they are 2 and 2 1/8 inch wrenches, they are big. the box ends have some width to them. One big gripe I have witht the commode wrenches is that they are so thin and defy staying on the nuts unless they are adjusted very tight. Using the box ends-one in each hand-they wont be slidding around.
