I recently had to repair my stuffing box and had a hard time understanding since I'm a visual person.
Well, I recently came across this link which shows "How to" with pictures.
Thanks to a marinecruiser@yahoo.com for this info.
I know it will help someone else as it did me.

More free advertising for MaineSail's website

Michel,
Glad to hear you enjoyed that helpful pictorial and complete instructions. The guy who made it is a regular poster here and goes by the handle: MaineSail or Halekai36 depending on which forum he's on. Your post is probably the most sincere form of flattery.
Perhaps his website should be a link in the Resources section of this website?

Great link.

Great web link. Especially if you have never packed the box.

Wouldn't it be nice if the stuffing box were all nice and shiney and right out in the open. And with lots of shaft length. Instead I lay on my stomach through a two foot opening with my cheek on the water heater. And I can only get one arm in there at a time. Vise-grips hold the coupler and wedges on the engine pan so that I can turn the locking nut. Getting the old packing out is easy if you can see it but of course you cannot. Yep, one of the real pleasures of owning an old boat.

In spite of all of that do not try to sell me on the dripless systems. I use GFO packing, as dripless as I plan to get.

Yo, Phil...

This is the second time I've seen this link re stuffing box, and it ought to be catalogued.

How about a rail that includes extraordinary well-produced visuals like this?

Others may have run across similar related links worthy of cataloguing.
