Has anyone tried to repack the stuffing box on their 356/36. I've found that there is not enough room to slide the flax retaining nut forward to repack it. The nut hits the back of the coupling flange. The solution is to either slide the engine forward, or pull the shaft. Any thoughts would be helpful Thanks, Dan

Packing

Dan, We also had the same problem. We were able to get the nut far enough forward so that with a lot of work, and numerous bent picks were able to get the old packing out. Cost me three hours of mechanic time to replace while out of the water. Sucks. Turns out, they only put in one turn of the stuff. We replaced with the teflon stuff. I am periodically amazed at the lack of planning and sometimes quality control that exists. At some point we will either install a dripless system or pull it apart to replace the hose with a shorter unit if possible. It should really be a Hunter problem. Dan Jonas (S/V Feije II)
