getting my 1980 hunter 27 ft. ready for the spring sail and would like to change the stuffing box packing with dripless mouldable packing but the stuffing box nut is frozen on//i have been giving it a liberal application of liquid wrench and automatic tran fluid to loosen it up but no luck//the packing box has from where it exit the hull a piece of rubber hosewith 4 hose clamps then the treaded brass tube a lock nut and a nut with a long threadedtube on the end//the bronze drive shaft goes the stuffing box//i have had the sailboat for 3 years but never changed the stuffing box packing//not sure how long its been since it has been changed quite a while i imagine//how is the best way to get the stuffing box off? where is the best way to put the wrench//i have lots of room to put a wrench but when i lean on the end nut/// the rubber tube flexes and would like and help// thanks all

Tom, Use 2 wrenches!

One on the nut itself, the other right besides, on the brass body that the nut screws onto. Don't recall for sure, but I believe you need to pull clockwise on the main body and counterclockwise on the nut to loosen it. Good Luck
