Still here. It’s been an intersting week, working again, living in a nice litte marina, eating most meals ashore (the next credit card statement is going to hurt!. It’s sort of a preview of the ICW, a narrow channel lined with boats and marinas. Since it is between the bridges though, the powerboats go by very slowly and not one has bounced me. A beautiful spot. It’s between the Downtown and Fort Rachel marinas and not listed in many guides. There are only a few slips but it’s worth checking if you are in the area. There is a boatshop right there and the owner is as nice a fellow as you will meet. John, (860) 536-3186.

Work took a little longer than expected and Barbara was able to stay until Saturday so I didn’t get out to take advantage of Thursday’s east wind. Just as well since this as good a spot as I could be in to wait out the near gale force winds that have been blowing since and will blow through Monday.

Barbara and I drove down the sound to see some of the family, a friend drove out from Stanford yesterday, and my brother is driving over today. I will therefore have taken care of all the visiting I planned to do on the way to New York so this delay may end up not slowing down my progress very much at all. Look for me to be underway as soon as the weather forecast here gets a little more reasonable:

If that's "stuck" then I want to be stuck! What a great SPOT to hang out. But it is going to get cold. Here in Ohio we don't have a day out of the 50s in the next ten. And the next three are to be in the 40s. Better get going Roger. I do remember your heater project though. Is that working?

I spent some time in Mystic many years ago aboard a Nonsuch 30 that I owned at the time. We stayed at the seaport museum dock at that time. It was in the fall also and one morning I got off the boat to find ice on the dock. As Ed says you better get going south.
We ate breakfast at a very small place called Kitchen Little. I don't know if it's still there but had great food at that time.

It sure is:

Strider's cabin this morning with the Newport diesel heater that runs 24 hours a day making hot water and cozy warmth. The heat shield behind the flue is a radiator and expansion tank for the hot water system that adds 12 square feet of heat radiating surface. I'm ready for cold weather.

Still there. Had a great breakfast with Barbara and will probably take my brother there for lunch. Be prepared, it's one of the last places west of the Ural Mountains that doesn't take credit cards.

If you have a chance, have breakfast or lunch at Carson's in Noank Village, It has a soda fountain look straight out of the 50's, it's a cozy place.

I always like to visit John's in the afternoon for a Black & Tan - and to play some pool. Its right across the park from the town landing. I could get stuck in Mystic for quite some time.

Love your heater setup. We left Plymouth, MA, on Oct. 1,'06 heading south, with a small propane heater onboard. Our routine was to run the heater in the morning to warm up the cabin while we dressed. Kept hoping to find warmer weather as we moved further south, but our first warm morning was in Oriental, S.C. As a matter of fact, we had ice on the foredeck when we left Elizabeth City, N.C.! Climate change, maybe? We were very jealous of all the Canadian sailors heading for the Bahamas with their fully-enclosed cockpits. They were drinking coffee in short-sleeved shirts, while we were wearing everything we owned. Not fair!
Good luck on your trip south, Roger. Stay warm!

I was in Provincetown for Halloween and New Bedford for election day 2004. My refridgerator was on the blink and the wind was blowing 35+ outside. I called my boat guru cousin in Beaufort and asked about the fridge. His response was succinct. Your boat is made to sail in those winds and if you don't get going you will not need a fridge. I ended up reefing that day but did luck out and get my fridge fixed and wait out a gale at Westbrook Marina.

Love your heating system. wish I had space for it. But get to Norfolk asap. After that on the inside you can wait out anything and take your time. Enjoy.
