stuck CB lever

Greetings I have a new to me, but older oday 16ft. My centerboard is not stuck I can move it up and down by hand from ubder the boat, but the lever inside the boat seems to be froze. I'm a newbie so I thought I better ask before tearing things apart...do these have a habit of correding somewhere in the linkage? The boat has only been in fresh water.Thanks

Hi Guy- I bought a 1969 Daysailer and the CB was hanging down about 8-10" at the rear with the crank handle locked up. I had it completely out and it was working fine but did not retact fully. The CB has a square hole that the crank goes thru and can be misplaced 90 degrees or 180 etc. I should have fixed it properly but left it the way, it was thru no knowledge of proper setting. It will move up if you push it from the bottom when crank is locked up. I tighted the 3 bolts too tight when I replaced the whole CB. I could not move it down easily at sea and capsised my first sail. Yours may be tightened too tight. However if it is able to move up and down any great length with out the crank moving, the square bore in the board must be rounded out. My suggestion is to remove the CB and check it out.
