So, we spent the weekend in this area kinda retirement shopping. There's lots to digest about our trip and a whirlwind trip it was. But, along the way we were told there were sometimes a lot of sailboats on the Indian River near the 732 Causeway, I believe coming from the Hutchinson Island area. Put simply, does anyone know if there is either mid-week racing, or club level racing that occurs in that area? If so, do you know what kind of boats are raced and where they come from?

There is a lot of big time racing down off of Miami, mostly in the winter time. There is less as you go further north from there, but there is still some.

House shopping in South Florida was a bit more complicated than in other places where I have lived. My best advice is to rent for at least several months, in different places & find out what area works best for you. There are a lot of very different options down here.

I rented a place out on Singer Island for about a year before I chose a place to buy. That worked well for me.

Life transitions are complicated. I agree that a rental is best to learn what works. My situation is more like a Hurricane and hoping for the best. There may be a few year transition; or there may be a hit the wall crash. The big thing is I have to do is get rid of crap. There are few possessions in my current life that will fit with my next life.
I'm starting to be OK with that. Or one example, I've had my Grandmothers Secretary (A piece of furniture-not a person) in my storage unit for 15 years. It's ruined. What am I holding onto? I'm sorry to Granny but I have to move on. I'm going to get rid of the past and move on into the future. I'm going to the dump a lot and liking it.

Storage Unit.... a place where you pay more than an item is worth to store it.

I always tell people we "downsized unsuccessfully" because we didn't get rid of enough stuff.

@shemandr I feel your pain. My wife calls me the pack rat. I have stuff in my garage from the garage 20 years ago. Of course I rationalized that the things were likely going to be needed so I needed to pack them... I did. I carried them to the truck and drove them 600 miles to the new to us house, and stored them in the new garage. To be discovered, like yesterday. A pumice stone block. Of no known use to me now. But very handy when we had a pool in California.

On the other hand, as I went through the box memories of cleaning the pool, watching my daughter and her friends playing, evening chats and a beer with my wife, midnight swims flooded my mind all because I packed a pumice block stone. For the moment it was all worth the discovery of the stone.

Cleaning out the cobwebs and stuff is a natural experience we all at sometime transit through. Enjoy the journey.

Having lived on boats since 1969, I guess I'm as downsized as I can get and still have the ability to carry on some repairs w/o anything from ashore.
Every time I visit someone's home I am just amazed by all the space, especially in a room they consider a bit cluttered.
I wonder, should I ever become a dirt dweller, what would I do with all that space? Upsize?

Back when I was an electrical contractor I had my entire garage filled with shelving and commercial electrical materials. I purchased a beautiful sports car for a seasonal toy but had no place to store it in the winter, so I rented a friend's garage for the season. As I pondered this I realized that I never took anything out of my garage, always ordering new material for every job and only storing the excess in the garage. Gritted my teeth, ordered a dumpster, filled it up and emptied the entire garage. Feels good to roll my BMW Z4 in there every winter.

I'm about an hour drive south of there off I-95. Our local club does a lot of racing

Yea, there is a lot of hooha around here about the runoff from the sugar plantations causing toxic algae blooms in the estuaries. Stuart is one of the areas that gets seriously affected sometimes.
