Several people have recommended the Strut Pro to replace a cutless bearing. I have been told that people on this site rent them. Can someone lead me in the right direction. I would prefer to rent then spend the $400 for a new one that I will probably use once!! Thanks Jack Manning S/V Victim of Fate Atlantic City, NJ

Jack, what boat will you be using it on?

A strut pro has two sections, the main body and the "fittings". The one fellow I know on line here that will rent them has what he needs for his (and my) boat (H31). The shaft size and bearing size are different on different boats. They will require differnt strut pro fittings. Im kind of hoping we can get 4 or 5 (or more)of us that are interested in buying one and split the cost between ourselves. No rental costs, use whenever we need one. Anybody interested?

Made one.

After posting here to rent one with no responses, I made a press for my cutlass. Bought the parts from HD and it worked flawlessly. Cost $12.00 Parts consisted of: 1 18" threaded rod 3 nuts 3 1.75" inch washers for the press end that matches to the cutless 1 2" I.D. 6" long threaded pipe 1 2" to 1.5" reduction coupling 3 2" washers to fit over the pipe The three 1.75" washers were sandwiched between the two nuts at one end of the threaded rod, tightened down good. Rod extends through the curtlass with the 2" pipe with reduction peice and washers then another nut. By turning the nut on the pipe end, it pulls the cutless into the 2" ID pipe. Pretty cool! Greg

Great!!

It's a Catalina 30 (1979). 1"x1 1/4"x4" is what I need. The three replies are a great help. If I can't get a hold of the Strut Pro I will definitely make one (I don't want to hammer the bejeezus out of it!!)! I am just trying to avoid removing the shaft!! Mike- If you get a hold of the guy that rented it to you, my e-mail is gpd955@msn.com. Jack Manning S/V Victim of Fate Atlantic City, NJ
