Strut mounting

I have a large bulge of fiberglass in the aft cabin. This looks to be over my strut. I have ODay 302, wondering if this is how the strut was mounted or a past repair. Also I notice some fiberglass damage on the strut, going to put the boat in the water this week. Hoping the repair can wait till next until next season. On the Great Lakes so the boat comes out each winter. Thoughts

My O’Day 322 has a big bump behind the stern tube, in front of the rudder post (so similar to your location).

My understanding is that how O’Day mounted the strut. Not sure what is under (or in) that lump though.

My lump is not nearly as pronounced as yours however. And much smoother.

I don’t have a photo unfortunately.

If it were me, assuming your strut is “tight” and not out of alignment, i would fair the strut, paint it and be done with it.

I hear that trying to reset the strut can be a real bear.
