Hello All, I have an Oday 30 and my bottom diver said the strut bearing is seriously in need of replacing. Does the boat need to be hauled to do this? Thanks.

this is also called the cutlass bearing

Hauling is a whole lot easier, unless your diver will do it. Make sure he's honest about the need for replacement

Just changed the mine

Just replaced my cutlass/strut bushing last weekend. I did in on the hard which I beleave is the only way to do it. Can not see how you could change it with out hauling. It's next to imposible to change without pulling the shaft and without that the cabin is going to get damp. I don't know about your O'day30 but on my 302 the rudder or the engine has to be removed to get the shaft out. On power boats that size the prefered method is to unbolt the strut and bring it into the shop to press the old bearing out and the new one in but on my 302 the strut is glassed in. Removel of the old cutlass required an allen key, hack saw, chisel and hammer. Good Luck Larry
