This is the first spring where I'm personally going to be getting the boat ready for launch. I have a number of darker streaks running from under the teak toe rail (Beneteau 36CC) down towards the water. Regular soap and a sponge does not remove them. I haven't really tried anything else yet as the water is not turned on in the yard until April 1. Does anyone have suggestions for the removal of the streaks? I'd like to get them completely off before waxing the hull.

I have found in the past that the streaks may actually be in the wax rather then in the gelcoat. After several years of experimenting, the first thing I do is to wash the boat with ammonia. It strips off ALL the old wax and usually the streaks. Then I go back with a good soap and water bath If there are still streaks then a little bit of fiberglass restorer with a buffer, then go with the new wax.

If you are going to wax the hull you might want to consider using the 3M product Finessse-It II. It is a mild finishing material or polish. It removes old wax,stains and light oxidation before waxing. It leaves the hull shining and baby smooth and the wax goes on much better. Although it is alot of extra work, follow directions keeping a wet edge, your hull will never look better....I have a 1984 222 that I used it on and the gelcoat looks brand new...
