Just happened to be on the boat shortly after a very heavy rain, water on the deck in main cabin. Started looking and wiping and found that: The hatch portion attched to the deck was cracked in several places, one of which I could see daylight through. I guess it leaked, couldn't help it. Think a clean out of the cracks and some epoxy is the short term solution. Long term of course replace hatch. Sure hope it hasn't been soaking between the deck and the liner. Always wondered where the very little water in the bilge came from, a sponge full. Also checked fore hatch same problem but to a much lesser extent. Stabilized resin which the hatch is made of isn't stabilized for ever. But then maybe 20 years or so isn't so bad. Anybody have an idea where to get a strangely shaped h27 fore hatch. Bomar has a nice replacement for the 12.5 X 17.5 size as previously posted.

Cut a new base

I removed the hatch by simply removing the screws. Work a putty knife under the base and it will come off. Trace the base over 1/4" plexiglass, cut out,and mark all holes and drill out. Reinstall with poly urithane calk applied under new base. Then, rebed entire hatch and rescrew. I replaced screws with ones 1/4" longer to compensate for the plexiglass.

Replacement Fore Hatch H27

Jack, The Gray Enterprise number of the fore hatch is 207; it has been discontinued. The Bomar number is 2092-l0A at a price of $405. Chris at Defender is looking for another hatch. Waiting to hear from her. Joe

Hatch Found

Jack, The original Gray Enterprise hatch number 207 may be replaced by Bomar number 2092-l0A. The hold cut out for the Gray is 20 one fourth, 19 one fourth, 18 three sixteenths; the Bomar hole cut out is 21 one eighth,19 nine sixteenths, 18 nine sixteenths. It seems there would have to be a little trimming to fit the Bomar hatch on the 21 one eighth cut out. Defender, Sherry, has them for $300. Let me know if you replace yours. Joe
