How do owners of Beneteaus 373 (with the furling mast and resulting baby stay) carry their Dinghies 0n the boat? Beneteau has told me that the stern pulpit was not designed to carry the weight and resulting forces with davits connected to the stern pulpits. Any solutions would be most appreciated !!

I have a stern arch on my OC400 that doubles as a davit system. its pretty heavy duty, bolted to the stern and carries my 10ft Avon with an 8hp Nissan outboard attached.

Beneteau 373 BAYFIELD
373 Dinghy stowage

I put my 8 ft Avon dinghy inverted on the foredeck ahead of the baby stay. The bow of the dinghy fits nicely in the pulpit and the pontoons come back either side of the baby stay. There is still room to reach and deploy the anchor. I have a set of Gauhauer dinghy davits mounted on the transom with two 75 Watt solar panels mounted on the top. If I use them for the dinghy I rest the bow of the dinghy on the swim platform which takes most of the weight and use the davits to hoist the stern of the dinghy up out of the way. Beneteau is right, there is not enough strength in the stern rails to support the full weight and I only use the davits for short hauls between anchorages. ........................Tony

Dinghy on Fordeck of Ben. 373

I did try this solution last summer and the problem is that the sheets(from the jib) constantly got caught under the cone shaped ends of the dinghy. By chance did you try tying a line a few feet up the babystay that goes goes to the gunwales on both sides of the boat.? This line would be placed in such a position to keep the jibsheets from falling under the cone ends of the dinghy.
