We are bringing an H-320 From Key Byscaine to Tampa Bay on the 1st week of November. We were thinking of taking some leisure time sailing and gunkholing on the inside from say Redfish Pass to Boca Grande. My question is about storms shoaling, can anyone advice about the conditions for entering through Redfish Pass and or Captiva Pass and to the ICW. The boat has a wing keel drawing 4'4".

Boca Grande

Your best and safest bet is to enter from Boca Grande and not from the other two passes. They both can be very tricky if you are not familiar with them. If you enter from Boca Grande turn south to Pelican Bay which is a great anchorage spot for the night.

Well, Benny, today seems to be the day for "Allens" to respond. I've never come "in" at Redfish Pass, but I've gone "out" several times. I agree with the other Allen. Forget Captiva Pass entirely. If you come in at Redfish, you'll have to swing right and go through the channel for Southseas Plantation. I would consider coming in at Ft. Myers Beach and then taking the ICW north. There are lots of great anchorages along the way, but the tidal currents can be wicked. There is a great website showing anchorages along the west coast of Fla. I'll try to find it and then add to this post.
