Storm jib

Speaking of sails. . . . When I use the storm jib on a run,
the sheets want to be led outside the shrouds, but when on a beat they
want to be led to the inside. If I fail to adjust the lead on the
different points of sail the lines chafe and put pressure on the
forward lower shroud. If I go ahead and install a removable baby stay
for the storm jib, which I would like to do, the lead will be worse.
I suspect the answer is to install blocks for those sheets on deck,
bringing the sheet down the side deck, but I wonder what others have
done. This has come up before on the list but I don't recall that I
saw an answer.
