Storing the anchor rode

I was reading a posting and the responses from a January 25th article regarding anchor rode. Seems that some of you have some type of anchor rode storage below deck? I have often thought that the space between my bow and the v-berth on my '75 C-22 would be a great place to store the anchor rode especially if combined with a short bow spirit to store the anchor itself. We tend to use our boat mostly to explore and gunkhole around Puget Sound and storing and retreiving the anchor gear from the cockpit storage areas is a pain. Did Catalina have some kind of hatch at the bow as an optional feature? Has anyone retrofitted a hatch of this kind? If so, I would love some pictures. If it means water on my v-berth (and therefore on my toes) maybe I'll stick with my existing set-up.

2000 Mark II

Hi there, My 2000 Mark II 22' Catalina has an anchor locker built into the deck with a flush hatch in front of the cabin top and behind the bow pulpit. I am not sure which year they started building the 22' with it but it's great, and it also has an automatic drain built into the bottom of the locker which drains back out with a nylon thru hull fitting. The locker fits a fortress danforth which the outline is molded right into the interior of the locker. There is plenty of room for at least 100' of anchor line and chain, with a hasp on deck which can be padlocked for security when not in use. For retro-fitting an older C-22 you might want to try Catalina Direct at 1-800-959-7245 or contact them here on the web at catalinadirect.com They are based out of Sacramento, California but are the largest refitting organization that I am aware of that are C-22 Specialists. Hope this helps Happy Sailing Dave

C-22 anchors

D. Doyle; Try storing your anchor and rode in a big, heavyduty canvas bag with handles that you can lift out of the cockpit locker easily. That's what I did on mine. Larry
