Hello all, I am considering keeping our RIB on the string line at Catalina Island for the summer so we will not have to tow it back and forth. Is it worth it, does anyone have experience with this? I hate to paint the bottom of our boat and decide that we do not want to continue keeping it over there. Thanks Frank

dink at the island

Will they even let you do that? Myself, I wouldn't do it. It'll get trashed, unless you keep it covered, and it still might. Towing it wasn't that much hassled when I was mooring on the string line.

Catalina String line

Hi Larry, Yes, there is a special area in some of the coves that have a string line dedicated just for this purpose. They are located in a separate area from the typical moorings so it would not be subjected to the daily boaters. This is a 13’ consol RIB and I don’t want to drag it behind my boat as it is 800+ lbs and we all like to sail as fast as possible. It is also is too big to keep in my marina with my primary boat. Theft will always be an issue and it will be something I will need to risk if we go through with it. Frank

Please be politcally correct people...

..things are not "stolen", ...long term borrowing. abe

Sell it

I wouldn't leave it there. Nothing may happen however no piece of mind. Sell it and get a roll up inflatable. If only going to and from dinghy dock or short excursions, most inflatables have enough speed and range for Catalina. Then you can stow it in the cockpit locker. Deflated, of course :)

Thought About It Frank...

...but I think the best bet is to get a cover and trailer and keep it dry stored there. You can arrange to have it launched and retrieved for you. However, there is nothing the matter with the dink line on the west end of Isthmus cove. Sorry I can't give you a price. You might call the outboard shop via Two Harbors Enterprises. Good luck, Rick D.
