Have the 88 Hunter 30, and am looking at the Bimini in the store. It mentions a coaming mount, with 5ft, 6in coverage. I'm curious about the height though. Since the boom on the boat is about head level ( I'm 6'1"), I'm guessing there won't be much room under the Bimini. Does anyone have the store Bimini with the coaming mount? How much room is under it?

Thanks,

Brian

Have a similar arangement and the sail cover will drag on the bimini and wear a hole in it in short order unless you can rase the boom with the topping lift when the sail cover is on and keep the two from rubbing. Im thinking that the sail cover would drive the max bimini height down by around 4-6 inches. Given your measurments that would be a close fit at best.
With the mainsail up the boom rises about 6" on my boat so there is plenty of clearance while sailing.

Bimini Rail Mount

I have the bimini for my 28.5 mounted on the forward slope of the stern pulpit about halfway up. It allows a full cockpit width Bimini and better clearance at the winches. However the standard mainsail and boom measurements had the end of the boom right in front of my face while standing at the wheel with the mainsheet hardened for windward sailing.
The solution was to take an 8" to 10" wedge out from the leech forward to effectively raise the boom and allow 6'-1" headroom under the Bimini and slightly less at the forward edge. If you have a flatening reef in the mainsail, you don't need to have the sail re-cut to try this out.
For pictures try the 'gallery' section on www.huntertwentyeightfive.com, and yes, if you don't raise the boom with a topping lift or rigid vang, the sail cover will rub on the Bimini. I sail with the bimini up, but snug the topping lift and fold and cover the Bimini when I leave the boat.

This is only a problem if you insist on having the bimini level from front to back. I mounted mine on the toerails to get the maximum width. And it has a 12" split at the backstay so that it goes well back. The front bow is lower than the middle and aft bow. Yes, I have to duck a little going forward under the bimini. I am also 6' 1" but have about 6' 6" at the mid-bow and back.

Thanks for all of the replies. Once I get something in place I'll post Picts.

Thanks again,
