How do you propose to install said large storage tank? It is going to get pretty cramped (certianly not a salty look, more like the Beverly Hillbillys) in there with a water heater tank on the salon seat.

If he's at the dock and has an 8kW gen set then consider an electric on-demand water heater. It will take up a lot less space. A Superstor is large and cumbersome let alone weighs a lot when full and would be tough to secure in a boat. For an engine to heat a large Superstor would take a loooooooong time. Also the larger Superstor heaters are usually just indirect fired or electric not both like a marine Superstor is.
By using a thermostatic mixing valve on the output of any water heater you can run the heater temp higher and then "blend" the outgoing water to get your desired temp. This makes the tank seem larger. You use less heated/stored water to reach your desired hot water temp thus get more hot water.....

As one who has lived aboard a lot, I can assure you that he is not going to have all the creature comforts. Unlimited hot water, forget it. Unlimited storage, forget it. Just ain't gonna happen. Have to agree with all those comments about a condo or houseboat but this was his dream and the boat is already purchased lol. It is an Island Trader 46 which is a quite nice live aboard layout. A lot nicer than say my Catalina 25 
. He is an older gent and been away from sailing a bit. The reality is this has always been his dream and I can respect him chasing it even if I don't agree. He purchased the boat up in Haverstraw bay NY and I went up and sailed it down to Sag Harbor for him where it is currently having some work done in preparation for our voyage to the Pimlico Sound. I was able to talk him into just swapping out his 6 gallon force 10 for a 20 gallon force ten and I'll be installing a mixing valve to temper the water and stretch the tanks capacity. When I priced out potential storage tanks and a pump to circulate the water through the tank and heater it made more sense $$ wise to go this route.
