Stop Engine Relay

Yanmar 27 on my 2005 hunter 36 is turning over but not starting. I replaced the stop engine relay and still have the problem. There is a single white with brown stripe lead from the start panel to i don't know where, and when opened it allows the engine to start! Any input as to what this lead controls and if left open what problems i may have.

Harley, I recently had a similar problem with my 2005 Hunter 38/Yanmar 40 HP 3JE series engine. It would turn over and run as long as I held the key in start position, but quit when key was released. Traced the wiring from the starting switch to every where it went, and went backwards as well from the stop relay. Found that the Sea Fire automatic fire suppresion system was telling the stop relay that the bottle had discharged and was activating the stop relay. I turned the Fire suppresion switch from normal to override and have had no further problems with the engine. The fire bottle had not discharged. Now I need to get a Sea Fire System tech to check out their system.

Scary, when a systems computer sensor can shut down engine power overriding the boat's operator judgement and situational awareness. I'll stay with the old stop cable.
