My bilge stinks. How much water should be in there? I think the float on my pump is set too high. Are there ways to adjust this? or treat that stank with some stuff? Do other people have zero smell when they walk in the boat after been closed up for a time? Is there such a thing? I have had the bilge cleaned out spotless. Thanks for any help. Pat

water in the bilge ..

I do not keep any water in the bilge. I pump it out and spounge dry the thing.. I would think that water is going to corrode the keel bolts if left for a long time. ASa for the stink, one thing you might want to check it to make sure you dont have any leaks in the head, lines or holding tank that might be source of the smell..

Bilge

Pat; Depending on what the odor is, install a drip-free system on the prop shaft and make sure your head doesn't leak and that all hoses are the right kind (check archives). A little Simple Green in the bilge can do wonders.

Bildge Odor

Pat, You have received some good suggestions, but I would like to add something. It sure helps with bilge smells if you thoroughly flush and clean the bilge several times a year. We have also finally invested in a shop vacuum to use to keep our bilge as dry as possible. Chuck
