Still needing help "What is this???"

So I went ahead and bought that sailboat. For $75 I couldn't pass it up. I'm still trying to identify it though. I looked up the sail insignia - nothing. Looked for the HIN number on the boat - nothing. I don't know what to do now! I've posted some new pictures and hopefully someone can help me out! I'm needing a daggerboard and I figure that I will need to know what kind of boat I have!

My Nephew had a Barnett Butterfly and that's what it looked like. He put a sunfish sail on it.

The sail threw me off at first, but not unusual to find a used sail on an older boat. You can make a dagger board out of marine grade plywood. Here is another site to look at.http://www.moyc.org/

Thanks everyone! I guess I was just hoping to find out exactly what it is. It probably is an older Butterfly - maybe pre 1970? I know I will have a lot more questions - I'm glad I stumbled upon this forum.

Butterflies, as I have seen them, don't have the splash guard angled the same way as the photos. The guard was either not there or was curved as I remember. Being over 60 my memory can be questioned.

Butterfly

We had some parts of a Butterfly donated to our youth sailing program. The sail had a butterfly on it we have a daggerboard and a rudder I think we stuck them in the back of the sail loft, can't bear to throw them out. We would much rather them go to an orphaned hull somwhere.

The design is not that different from my Johnson. Be ready to use your entire body over the side to counteract the force of the wind on the sail. Hiking out is the only way to avoid being completely wet. On any day it is a wet sail unless you are going directly down wind like I was in the picture. Fun boats for sure!

Yeah I don't have a daggerboard, we were going to try to make one because a new one is too expensive, even used ones are a lot. My sail is a little rough, several small holes (can be fixed) and the plastic or rubber is old and stiff. I was hoping to find someone with parts to sell.

With a loose foot mainsail of that size you could purchase a sail kit from Sailrite for $170 - $200ish if you get serious about sailing it and wear out the old main.

All cleaned up!

I cleaned up the top this morning. It cleaned up pretty good too! Any ideas about what to use on some stains from sitting on the ground? Can I use a bleach and water solution? I still need to clean the white bottom, which really needs a good cleaning. So far so good!

I got the white looking brand new on my Johnson. I used Lysol Basin Tub and Tile Cleaner. You can find it anywhere.

For algae/organic type stains, a simple toilet bowl cleaner that contains acid will remove it easily. Put a couple capfuls in a bucket of water, a long handled pot brush to slosh it on and a water hose to wash it off... You'll find an inexpensive, generic bowl cleaner at Janitorial/restaurant supply stores like Smart & Final.
