The top part of my furler seems to be sticking. It seems to be on a certain spot. Anyone had this problem and is there a simple fix?

When you say top part is it the swivel that attaches to the halyard and goes up when you raise the sail? I spare mine down with McLube every year prior to bending on the sails.

Hope that helps.

Not the top but I had to replace the lower bearing drum. On early models (mine was an
'02) there's no way to flush the bearings and they eventually gum up. The new model drums have holes towards the top for flushing.

I had that same problem. Once I switch to the new drum it was like night and day on reefing/furling.

Might try the McLube as that would make things easier. Never had a problem with the lower unit (or the upper either), but we are a fresh water boat on the Potomac. ;)

There seemed to be some confusion when I referred to the top of the furler. This is the piece.

Yup, that is the part I was referring to. There are ball bearings in there and they can get stiff from dirt and salt water. Every fall when I take the sail off I flush that out with fresh water followed by spraying it down with McLube Sailkote dry lubricant (I am sure any dry lubricant would work, I just like this product). Spin it around a bunch of time and make sure it is turning freely. Then I tie it down to the furling drum so that it's secured for the winter. In the spring I will spray the bearings down again and make sure it can spin before putting on the sail. I will also spray the McLube in the foil to help the sail go up easier.
