New 260

Thanks Dave. I have spent the better part of three years since I got the "boat bug" looking at and researching and reading about trailerable sailboats. I too looked at the Mac 26 and the Cat 250 and began to focus on the H-260. Butch Berchem was kind enough last summer to demo the Hunter line at his house on Lake Norman, and I was mentally, but not financially, ready to go at that point. What really made me get off the fence and eliminate the Mac 26 was the changes Roger Macgregor made in the new M model. I am now anxiously waiting for the Mid-Atlantic Show in Charlotte to close, so that Butch can finish the commissioning/dealer prep. I changed my mind about going to the show when I realized I had conducted my own show at Select Yachts. When Butch rolled in from the Hunter factory with my 260 behind his Dodge Dakota, I cut the factory seal on the companionway hatch and spent the afternoon going over the boat. Good Choice!

Hi Steve, I to recently (took delivery late Oct.) purchased a new H260 from Butch, in fact, you probably saw it in his yard last week. I'v had a number of problems with mine (broken rudder, and a leak in the ballast near the compression post) but Butch and the guys at Select have been super about taking care of me. My boat was returned to Hunter for the ballast repairs and Butch tells me he will deliver on Feb. 18. Hunter was really up front with the way they handled the rudder problem and the ballast leak, rest assured that if anything goes wrong, Butch and Hunter will be there to make it right. Other than these few problems, we have really enjoyed the boat for the short time we've had her. We keep her at our dock hear at Hartwell Lake but plan to make some trailer trips in the future. By the way, Butch did some canvas for the boat and his work is absolutely spot-on beautiful!Where will you be doing most of your sailing? If you want to sail Hartwell I would recommend the ramp at Portman Marina, big water access, plenty of room for rigging and a great dock next to the ramp (7$ fee). What other sailing experience have you had? I know Butch has probably told you about some of the upcoming events at Lake Norman, do you plan to attend?Let me know how the new boat is coming, I'm sure you will love it. If you want to go for sail that'd be great.

New 260

Chet, barring anything unforseen, I anticipate that Butch will deliver my boat at Portman Marina on March 6.My sailing experience began on Biscayne Bay as an early teen in Sea Scouts with a home built 14' dinghy (3/4" marine plywood, oak ribs and stem, teak gunwales and lots of sanding, varnish and white paint).There follows a Long spell of no boating due to college, Vietnam, and a career with the S.C. Dept. of Corrections. I began to get the boat bug about seven years ago and started with a 17.5' canoe.Last summer my wife and I took the A.S.A basic course with Buddy Price at Big Water Sailing School at Starr, S.C. I had been browsing shows, magazines and the net and began my first contact with Butch in January last year with a few questions. In July he invited us to his place on Lake Norman where we had the last demo appointment for the day and spent about 3 hours on the boat and a good bit of time after talking with Butch, Adele and Jack Weber. Jack is beginning to talk about a Lake Norman Hunter Regatta. No dates or details as yet. Crazy Dave Condon is talking about a Rendevous at Kerr Lake mid May, posted earlier on this site. I did see your boat at Butch's yard in the corner backed up next to the fence beside a 240, but my interest was obviously on mine. I look forward to seeing you "on the water".Steve Kamp
