How is the hand? To catch those who were not here last fall, Steve is a sailor that had cut himself pretty bad while working on his boat. r.w.landau

R.W. an update

Wanted to let you know that the shelf unit idea you described for the bulkhead behind the fold-down table is now completed on our 272. I went down yesterday and installed the sides and shelving and stained the mahogany to match the teak bulkheads. I have to custom fit the fiddles because the unit width varies. As you know, nothing is ever quite plumb or square on a boat... Also, your suggestions for the rudder repair worked out well. I'm drilling out the new holes for the tiller attachment and pintles this afternoon. Then I will paint with Interlux. Decided to go to paint rather than gelcoat. I'm not sure if you were a part of the stanchion rebedding discussion which centered around whether or not to use a gasket or caulk or both when rebedding. I pulled one of the leaking stanchions off yesterday and found that ODay had indeed used gasket material, and contrary to some of the comments in the thread, the gasket is in decent shape. No UV degradation or other problems of decomposition as it is sandwiched between the deck and the stanchion fitting. I'm going to use a combination of sealant and white neoprene gasket to rebed. Someone suggested using white to avoid the staining which occurs as water runs off the black gasket material. Now I know where that black stain comes from!!! Hope your season is well underway. I plan to launch next weekend if the weather allows me to wax the hull and bottom paint this week. As always, best regards, Tom

Hi ye-all

Hey everybody, I am still here. The hand is doing very well thank you very much!!!!! It is still not as it was and may never be but on the other hand (pun intended)the hand does work, it has been just a simple matter of learning to do things differently and adjusting accordingly. The boat is coming along just great, all I need is more time, money and good weather. I don't think that I am asking for too much. I have been here on this site but have been just a lurker, (hey Phil, hows that Pearson site coming?). Thanks for all the support from all of you. Fair winds to yah.... Steve, s/v NOETA (P323)
