Hello everyone, I have a 1988 Legend 37, and I need to know how big the stern tube is on this boat so I can order the right size PSS shaft seal. Unfortunatly the boat is 76 miles away and it is to cold to go dowm there just to mesure the tube diameter. Thanx, LAS

Drip-free packing

For what it is worth, there is a readily available product called "Drip-free Packing", with which you can use your existing stuffing box and have a dry bilge. You DO have to tighten the packing, from time to time, like with normal packing, but it does what it says, which is seal the shaft without any drips. If I remeber correctly, the stuff goes for about fifty dollars. It is an easy install.

Shaft Seal

I installed the PSS Shaft Seal last spring. About a 3 hour job. The toughest part was getting the old tubing off the shaft log. I purchased a very inexpensive 2-prong wheel puller at Sears to pull off the flange. If you call the folks at PYI, the maker of the PSS product, they have a listing of almost all popular boats. You can buy it heavily discounted at West Marine or Boat US. Good luck. If you need any other information, e-mail me at wrfsail45@aol.com

stern tube

I recently replaced the stuffing box with a PSS system. The shaft is 1" and the stern tube is 1 3/4". I think that the 37 is probably the same as the 35.5. Good Luck.
