Hello All.....

As part of maintenance for summer I took prop, shaft and stuffing box to prop shop to have everything looked at. Turns out shaft was not true so stuffing box had some wear. Anyway, they corrected shaft, tuned prop and I bought new traditional stuffing box. When removing from the boat and also noticed during summer, the stern tube where shaft exits is green.... built up accumulation of the stuff. I do have a grounding strap around coupling (shaft saver) but nothing grounding the tube. I am assuming this should also be grounded. And is there a product like an oil that can be put on this to protect it.

Thanks as always

Greg

if you must coat it...... use fluid film after you clean it up with a ss wire brush

So let me add this..... I have a Bronz stern tube for the shaft to exit the boat that is not bonded. However, the rubber hose that supports the stuffing box is a wire reinforced hose. If that wire which is ss was touching the Bronz.... Could this make a circuit? The stern tub has damage where the wire pertuded.

And also with the Peason 36-2, the bilge is shallow and this area is the first to be under water...... 1 cup and it's totally exposed to salt water. My bilge is typically dry but this is the area and hat holds water
