Stern to dock?

We are having to moor the Hunter 19 with the stern backed up to a u-shaped floating dock, because the existing dock is too large and unsafe for the boat and me, and the water level is too low. Also I need the floating dock to walk around. I know I saw a reference in this forum which stated that the proper dock position for a Hunter 19 is facing away. I couldnt find it. Any ideas please?

Given the open transom...

of the H19, I would think that stern to docking would be the prefered method. It should allow you easier access to the cockpit from the dock.

Trade Off

Docking stern first with the open transom offers easier boarding, but there is much less privacy. Everyone walking down the dock can see into the cabin. Depending on the wind and room to swing the boat, one may be easier than the other, but generally it is more difficult to back into a slip. Also, sheck the prevailing wind, as it may assist in cooling the cabin to be stern to. Rob
